Any information on Spring family Kerry?
« on: Sunday 07 May 17 15:49 BST (UK) »
"In 1578, Captain Thomas Spring, the grandson of Thomas Spring of Lavenham, settled in Ireland as the Constable of Castlemaine, where there was a small English garrison."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_family
That's roughly the center of a large Spring cluster around Tralee(as shown in attachment) with people like this guy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Spring) who's my 2nd cousin twice removed or more mentioned here (http://www.irishtimes.com/news/another-spring-about-to-be-sprung-in-kerry-1.926071) there's a lot of Springs in Tralee.
I can also see a lot of people like this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Spring_Walker) who are more similar to Anglo-Irish gentry whereas my great grandmother was just a normal Irish person.
Is it likely that these two Springs are linked(descended from Captain Thomas Spring)? It seems the most likely origin of this surname in that area.

Re Springs of Kerry I recently published a book 'From Laois to Kerry' which provides a little further information on the origins of the Kerry Springs as follows: Capt. Thomas Spring's son Walter married Mary Crosbie who was the daughter of Patrick Crosbie, who had become one of the largest landowners in Kerry and had originated in Co. Laois. The Crosbies were subsequently leading landlords in Kerry for around 300 years. I have lots of genealogical information on the descendants of Mary Spring Crosbie as part of the research for my book which devotes two chapters to the Crosbies of Kerry. The Crosbies were arguably the most widely connected landlord family in Kerry during that era.

Did you ever come across Giles Spring? She was listed in Edmond Fitzgerald's will of 1675 as being his sister, that would make her a daughter of the 12th Knight of Kerry. Which Spring she married I don't know.

There were other Giles or Gyles FitzGeralds: one defended Dunhill Castle against Cromwell, another was the illegitimate daughter of Edmond.

Edmond's other sister was listed as "Ellinor MacCarthy More" who was easy enough to find as she was the wife of the Florence McCarthy More who died before 1689.

Yes, I found her in this book. I will attach screenshot. She married Walter Spring the Unfortunate . Another name for Juliana according to this.
