Hi,

I am having a great deal of difficulty transcribing the will nuncupative of Luke Downham of Wilcot near Chippenham, Wiltshire.

I have only managed to decipher only a few words so far and wonder if anyone out there can help me.

Is there anyone who would be able to help me?

Here's at least a good start. Not surprised you were struggling, the spelling is, er, creative in places!

The will Nuncupative of Luke Downham of Wilcot
To George Downham my sonne that Tenement of freehold with th’appurtenances thereunto be longing situate in [Wore] to enter presentlie on my decease both in rent & possession & yf hee dye wh’out yssue to Symon & William my sonne and there yssue

The two leases of [Fisher] meade unto Symon & William my sonnes & to the longest lyver of them

To Symon my sonne £20 )   presentlie to be put forth for there use by my overseers after my decease
To William my sonne £20 )

Moreover I give to enie one of my children more than is above set down £5 apeece to come to there use presentlie upon my decease

It's a malt querne - ie a stone for grinding the malt.

I think the first word on the following line is fate = vat.  The crossed out word above is vate.

What type of vat depends on how one reads the last word on the previous line.  The first letter has elements of y, h and v.

If it's an h, it could be hoting = heating, but I'm not sure that it is.
