Finding my Mothers ancestors
« on: Sunday 07 May 17 21:34 BST (UK) »
We live in the town of Middlesbrough, close to Linthorpe Cemetery. After doing some reasesrch online we discovered 3 graves with my mothers surname have been buried there around the time of the 1850's, all three died in infancy. We would love to know if they are anyway related so we can go and and lay flowers at the grave. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We go to the cemetery daily trying to look, the names of those are
Rachel Bevan, Jane Bevan and Daniel Samuel Bevan.
Thank you in advance

Hi,

Firstly a very warm welcome to RootsChat!

Two death index records from the new GRO index:

Bevan, Jane; Dec Qtr 1854; Age 3; Stockton Reg Dist; Volume 10A Page 26
Bevan Rachel; Dec Qtr 1854; Age 21; Stockton Reg Dist; Volume 10A Page 30

Stockton registration district covered Middlesbrough until 1875 when it was then covered by the Middlesbrough registration district.

The ages shown could be in weeks or months as well as years.

I have not been able to find anything for Daniel Samuel Bevan at all unfortunately, also I am not finding any births that fit for any of the children either.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

Welcome to Rootschat. Have you looked into your family tree at all, or are you just trying to connect with these names?

Daniel Samuel Bevan was born 1855 and was buried Mar 4, 1856 - Age 5 months.

Rachel died 1854 buried Dec 5, 1854 - Age 21 months.

Jane died 1854 buried Nov 12, 1854 - Age 2 yrs.

I can't seem to find any birth registration on Freebmd in order to find the mother's name to see if they were siblings.

Snap David.

wondering if this family is connected - 1861, Albert Road, Middlesborough. Children all b Middlesborough. It was having another Rachel that caught my eye. Again births difficult to trace, but if some of deceased infants were b  in Wales that may be an explanation?

David Bevan    38 - b Abergavenny
Elizabeth Bevan    31 - b Llandrillas [?] N Wales
William Bevan    7
Machel Bevan    5 [Rachel]
Elizabeth Bevan    3
David Bevan    1
Sarah Seklin    15 - servant
William Rees    23 - lodger

Hi,

Daniel Samuel Bevan was born 1855 and was buried Mar 4, 1856 - Age 5 months.

Grrrr, no wonder I couldn't/didn't find Daniel's death, registered as David Samuel Bevan on both FreeBMD & GRO! Also registered in the Stockton registration district, Volume 10a Page 18 in the March quarter.

So was his name Daniel or David I wonder?

Kind regards

David

Hi,

David Bevan    38 - b Abergavenny
Elizabeth Bevan    31 - b Llandrillas [?] N Wales
William Bevan    7
Machel Bevan    5 [Rachel]
Elizabeth Bevan    3
David Bevan    1
Sarah Seklin    15 - servant
William Rees    23 - lodger

If the above is the correct family, then I can only find the one birth index record, the following from the GRO Index:

Bevan, William; March Qtr 1854; MMS Kensey; Stockton Reg Dist; Volume 10a Page 33.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

No that looks a good match, I was just looking for Bevan! Can you see either of the girls to check if it is the same family?
