Is anyone familiar with this first name ?
« on: Sunday 07 May 17 21:58 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone.

I came across this name Moruse on the 1901 Census for the Hartnet family.

I thought it was very unusual so I googled it but could only find ref. to Morse.

So anyone ever heard of this name.

Perhaps they couldn't spell Maurice/Morris?

I wonder if it is a mis-spelling of Maurice?
We have one such mis-spelling -------  HARDOME for Ferdinand !
Can you cross check it with anything else?       Viktoria.

Sorry aghadowey ,whilst I was typing my message in yours beat me to it. V

Have you looked for him in 1911 census?

I thought Maurice/Morris too.

Then wondered if it could be Manus which is listed in a boys name list as a substitute for the Scandinavian name of Magnus

However, this is Ireland so more apt to be a mis-spelling of Maurice.

I quite agree that it could be Maurice - there is on findagrave Maurice Hartnett died 19 Jan 1975 Balgriffin Dublin wife Mary (no age given) but the question asked was "anyone heard of this name"

Also found a few surnames Moruse

whether they are mistranscriptions/misspellings I do not know
