William Barnard-Yorkshire
« on: Tuesday 09 May 17 02:51 BST (UK) »
This is my first posting, not sure where to begin. I am looking for help to find out more about my 3x great grandfather, William Barnard, born approx. 1792 in Yorkshire. He and his wife Ann? Resided in Lincolnshire until moved to Ontario, Canada with children Sarah, Elizabeth, John, Eliza, George, Charles in approx. 1830 where he died in 1867. I think his father's name was John, but am not sure.
I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you.  :

Hi

Welcome to rootschat  :)

Is this the baptism of their son Charles  :-\
Charles Barnard
21 December 1828
Thornton-Curtis, Lincolnshire
Father William Barnard
Mother Ann

What makes you think that William was born in Yorkshire.

Have you any idea where Ann was born or what her maiden name may be.

Where do you have baptisms for the children

Online trees are great for suggestions but should always be treated with caution.  ;)

There are marriage bonds for Wrawby of a William Barnard age 24 otp and Ann Shaw age 21 in 1822.

We really need to know where and when the children that went to Ontario were baptised to proceed with this  ;)

To solid rock:
Thanks for your replies. I know there is a lot of confusing information from just my own research.
William Barnard's gravestone says he was a Native of Yorkshire. I found a birth registration for a William Barnard born 10 January 1790 in Ellerton by Bubwith, Yorkshire....father's name John.
I am not certain this is the correct William Barnard.

Solid rock, the Elizabeth Barnard you found baptized in Manton is the correct one as far as I know. There are more than one Sarah Barnard but I believe it's the one born in 1817 in Bottesford, Lincolnshire, parents William and Ann. There are several marriages of a William Barnard to different Ann's and i am having trouble knowing which one is correct, but his marriage to Ann Brown fits the time frame best.
Thanks for helping me. I have baptisms for all the children except John and Amos, who Census records show him being born in Ontario, Canada in 1832.

Thank you Rosie. The baptism you found for Charles is the one I believe is correct. I thought he was from Yorkshire because the inscription on his gravestone says Native of Yorkshire, but of course this could be wrong. I have tried to research several Ann's wife of William Barnard but cannot figure out for sure who is the correct one. Ann Brown fits the time frame, and I believe she was a Primitive Methodist.
I cannot find them on any passenger lists to Canada, I believe it was too early. He was shown as a widower in 1837 in Chinguacousy Township, Peel County. He married a Mary Balch, widow, in 1838. She died in 1860, then he married Harriet Brain or Brane.
I cannot find John's baptism except for one in 1824, but his sister Eliza was baptized in Feb. I think of
1824, a bit too close to the date. I am running out of places to look. Thanks for your help till now.
