red reference numbers in 'whether working at home' on 1911 census
« on: Wednesday 10 May 17 11:20 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know what the red reference numbers mean when used in the 'Whether working from home' column?
This query particularly refers to 6 vagrants in Bourne Workhouse on the 1911 census.

Any thoughts

Loz

Thanks so much for that - it is a real revelation to me - I'm a real Family Historian and have never even looked at that before.  Is it just for the 1911 census?

The 1911 is the only one that obviously uses them going from what I can see.  I am sure someone will be able to give the full facts  ;D

Thanks too from me Rosie, I haven't come across the codes before and I have been using that site for a few years now. Apart from your links how do you access the codes when going on FindMyPast?

Good question Ellen, I found it by googling occupation codes  ;D
Like the missing census I knew it was somewhere it was just easier to google it.
