Hm.  So it might have been they got married on the QT with her having just given birth?

Their son was born Q3 1902 as John Burton SMITH and died in Q4 of 1902 as John Burton RONDEAU

I might have to apply for the death certificate to see whether baby John died before or after the 26th of December because I can't see the rush if he died before.

I don't think it's evidence they were in a rush, but rather that they wanted to marry in a Catholic church.

It would have been a mixed marriage.  John was most definitely not a Catholic.
