searching for a death record
« on: Wednesday 10 May 17 19:42 BST (UK) »
Trying to find a death entry for Margaret Metcalfe born 1846, living in Shildon in 1911.  I have no idea when or where she died.  Looking at gro a possible death entry for husband Thomas Metcalfe 1923 Auckland 10a 316? Is there a will reference to this Thomas? In 1911 living 1 Regents Street New Shildon - are there any records for this address after 1911? Thanks  :)

Will take a look. I dont have access to the 1939 register yet - is it possible to see who is living at the address in 1939 (you never know)  :-\

we can't do 1939 register look up as the data is exclusively available from FindMyPast with a subscription.

How far can you get with a free search?

I've just looked up the address and they're not there - did a name search but nothing.  I've had a quick look at the probate records and no success but I'll take a look again incase I missed something.

are there any records for this address after 1911?

Electoral registers for Shildon are online. But if Thomas was alive, Margaret would not be on them until 1918.
After 1934 there don't seem to be any deaths in England and Wales of a Margaret Metcalfe born circa 1846, so it's unlikely that she will be in the 1939 Register.

"How far can you get with a free search?"

On 1939 Index a free search gives you basic information on the household.

I chose Durham, 1880 (birth) John Smith

I got multitudes  of the name John Smith in County Durham .

I chose John Smith (born) 1882, Living in Gateshead, 1939, with Robert Smith and 2 more people.
That is all the information available with a free search.

The only library with free full access is in Utah. There may be more of them but Utah is the only one I know of.

There's a couple of deaths for Margaret Ann Metcalfe in Auckland
Sep 1911, age 66
March 1913, age 65

The free index to 1911 shows two Margaret's born 1847 in Auckland R.D. One is yours (who I think was born Margaret Bussey in 1846?). And a Margaret Ann, who presumably is one of those two deaths.

Daughter of Thomas + Margaret?
Sep 1888 Auckland 10a 176
Metcalfe, Margaret Ann
mother Bussey

So might it be possible that Margaret was given as  Margaret Ann on her death reg?

Is it possible for someone to look at electoral register for Shildon, Durham to see if they can find Margaret or husband Thomas?

1911 living 1 Regents Street, New Shildon

Thankyou ☺
