Mary Cockfield, born around 1728, possibly in Welbourn.
« on: Thursday 11 May 17 11:19 BST (UK) »
Hello There,

The above person was one of my 6x Great Grandmothers. She married James Rawdon, in 1760, in Welbourn. On the parish marriage record of the time, it states that Mary was: "of the parish of Welbourn". I don't think it states that Mary had been married before. Her Husband James, I think was born around 1735. The surname Rawdon has been spelt/ transcribed in different ways: "Rawdin" "Rawding" etc. I think James died in 1815, buried at Welbourn, according to Find My Past.

I am trying to find a baptism record for Mary in the area please, but cannot find one. I know there was a Thomas Cockfield in the area, who possibly married a few times (if it is the same one anyway), according to Freereg, the last one possibly in the late 1720's. But I can't find a baptism for Mary.
There was a Mary Rawdon who was buried at Welbourn, in 1810 according to Freereg. Her age at burial was 82.

So any help there would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.  :) ;)

Welbourn PR's are available to browse on Lincs to the past
http://www.lincstothepast.com/searchResults.aspx?qsearch=1&keywords=Welbourne+baptisms&x=39&y=18

This includes in 1729

"son and daughter of Th COCKFEILD and Ruth his wife" - the parents were married there in 1728

COCKFIELD is an unusual name in Lincs
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

So it appears that Mary was baptised on October the 28th 1729, along with her twin Brother, Daughter of Thomas and Ruth. Now I wander what her twin brother's name was (?). :)

Thank you.   :)

There was actually a Ruth COCKFIELD (spinster) married there in 1766, so you can't be certain.

Thank you for that,
I see what you mean, but this would only be one year out with her estimated age at burial in 1810. Also, Mary married John Rawdon in 1760. Their first child was baptised Ruth, in 1761. And their next child was baptised Thomas, in 1764.  :)

I think I did find a baptism for a Mary Cockfield, at Leverton, in 1725. But this seems to be quite a long way from Welbourn.
