ancestry family tree maker HELP

My PC got infected with a virus and I had no back up. I had a copy of the software on an externel drive, when I came to install that I got a message saying it had got corrupted and would not in stall. Ancestry must have a copy of my tree, as I had it avalable for for all to see. So contacting them should help and I can down load it. I need a F T progrem that supports gedcom files 

I have loads of ftm files that I can't open. Is there another family tree program that uses these files or can they be converted into another program. All is not lost as I do have my tree up on the internet.

If this is the version of family Tree Maker that has been taken over by Software McKiev you may be able to download a new copy from there web site (must be for a registered version)

Thanks unfortunly my copy was not registered.

Its all sorted. I have bought a copy from ebay, I'll get by the weekend. I have a gedcome file from Ancestry that I got to day so all I heve to do is load it in and all the ftm files I have I'll be able to see what they are. I will make sure I do a proper back up and see if it works on my other computer.

Hi Oldhippy,

Just be aware that FTM 2014.1 doesn't synch with ancestry as of 1 april. FTM 2017 does but it's not yet been released. There's a 'Test Drive' version of FTM 2017 that you need to sign up for.  I'm one of the many 'Test Drivers' and I've had no problems so far.  I have no idea when FTM 2017 will be released but I suspect that it won't be too long.

The version I'm getting is the 2014 - 2016.
