Startup Repair - help needed asap.

I thought I'd switched off my laptop but when I came back to it a few hours later Startup Repair was running.  I eventually got the message that whatever it was hadn't been fixed and HP Recovery Manager popped up.  I selected Secure Personal Data and a backup began, but has now failed twice.  Error code FFFFFF14.

I have no idea what I'm doing or what to do next, and my only access to the Internet is via my phone. 

Can anyone help please?  I'm using Windows 7.

I got as far as Step 1 (switching off) but wasn't quick enough with step 2... but somehow it seems to have fixed itself as I'm up & running again, although I'm now about to start a major back-up exercise just to be on the safe side !
