Anderton Mills, Mawdesley, Lancs
« on: Friday 12 May 17 00:53 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone please suggest where I could look to find information on the history of Anderton Mills in the Mawdesley area of Lancashire, and in particular which Andertons were originally responsible for building / owning it.

Many thanks for your help,
KESTON RUXTON.

This site suggests that the Anderton's stem from the  Anderton's of Euxton

It's marked as Anderton's Windmill on the 1840s 6-inch map - http://maps.nls.uk/view/102344018 (in the top left corner).

Windmills were the norm in the area. Flat land does not lend much of a hand to anybody hoping to build a water mill.

There doesn't seem to be much available online. You may have better luck searching for Three Post Green, which is the other name for this part of Mawdesley.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.
