Identify Victorian Badge
« on: Friday 12 May 17 13:52 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Your help is needed in identifying this Victorian Badge. It was found during a house clearance after a relative passed away.
The badge is quite heavy and is mounted on leather. There is nothing on the back to suggest how it was attached to anything, only the fittings of the badge are showing, which are 5 flanges, bent over.
Thank you in advance,
Brian

Strange crown, eight arches & strawberry leaves? Can't be Hanover as she never inherited that. Royal duchess before she became queen?

Skoosh.

Looks like a badge for military horse tack.

Good afternoon,

Would be seen in several places on horse harness. No leather backing on the bit as metal to metal. Could be from the junction of headstall and cheek strap, on the breast strap or on crupper straps if in full harness rather than just riding tack.

Now looking for exact match of crown.

Back again,

Victorian cavalry harness badge. If you google "military horse harness badges " you will see several pictured. 2nd and 3rd pictures in particular. Most seem to have the extra hoops showing unlike cap badges.

Thank you all for the information, I think your right, it is a horse harness badge. It would be ineresting to know what Regiment. No other examples have the garland around the base.

The royal motto, Honi Soit etc, was used by several regiments including the Life Guards!
