Help dating an old car in photo Bloom and Hook Family
« on: Friday 12 May 17 14:32 BST (UK) »
I have an old family photo of my grandmothers parents, grandparents, and older brother (the little boy). The child died before she was born, not long after this picture was taken. I know the names of everyone in this pic, but no one living knows when the child was born or died. I am trying to find some record of his existence, and I have come to a dead end. If I can date the car, I can at least know he was still alive after the car was built, which may help. Anyone have an idea? Thanks for any help. I can provide the names of the people in the pic if anyone is interested. They are the Bloom and Hook family of Baltimore, MD.

Difficult to be sure but the car could possibly be a circa 1914 model T Ford.

Thanks for the help! That makes sense. The child was already deceased when my grandmother was born in 1926, but I cannot find a census record for the family before 1930, so I do not know when he was born or died, or where he or his parents are buried.

I would say a bit later, perhaps 1918-1920

Don't misunderstand me, dating photos is not my area...I was giving an approximate year of the car's model.... clearly I've no idea how old the car was when the pic was taken. Given that the car may be four or five years old at the time, this dates the photo as Carol has suggested.

Oh I understand this. I was assuming the car was not brand new, but I more wanted to have an idea when the pic may have been taken. If the car is 1910-1914ish, then the pic can't really be any earlier than that. Since I cannot find them on a census while the child was alive, or even before he was born, it helps to get a decade to work with. Thanks for all the help!

Is this the family? William D. Bloom & Odessa Hook-
1930- https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X3WQ-XNR
1940- https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K76L-935

Haven't found parents together yet in 1920- perhaps they married after that census?

That is the family. The young Odessa in those records is my grandmother. I do not know when they got married though. I can't seem to find any of them, married or single, before 1930.
