Wolverhampton: World War I soldiers

The Express and Star contains many items - some with photographs - of Wolverhampton men who served in the First World War.  Staff and volunteers at the City Archives are putting this information on the website www.wolverhamptonswar.wordpress.com

As at today, it appears that they've got up to December 1915, but the site is well worth searching if you have ancestors in the area.

Thanks for posting that Cati.  I have ancestors from Wolverhampton who served in WW1, in particular my great grandfather (who survived) and his brother (who didn't).

You may well be lucky: this week an article appeared about my grandfather and his brothers, including details of the regiments they served in, and the fact that their father had 8 years service as a regular, and a further 8 as a Terretorial (which I didn't know about!)

That must be the Cox family.  I've just read their story, such a lot of information in the article.  Fingers crossed, hopefully my Spooners will appear too.

Hi Cati, I just wanted to say thanks again for posting the website www.wolverhamptonswar.wordpress.com.

My g g uncle William Joseph Spooner has now appeared on their website and, although I already have the information they have posted, I am so happy to see that he has been remembered. They have also put a link to one of my posts on Rootschat (although they do refer to me as his g g nephew instead of niece )
