James CLINTON, born 1835, Cheltenham
« on: Saturday 13 May 17 15:56 BST (UK) »
Hello,

James CLINTON's father, a Baker, "ran away" (from home?) on 21/03/1849, his wife had died 7 years previously.    Both parents' names unknown.  He had a brother John who was in Cheltenham's Union Workhouse where, apparently, James CLINTON had spent the last 7 years dating back from 28/03/1849.   He was sentenced to a week in prison on this latter date and made all these comments.

He was sentenced to 7 years transportation on 07/08/1850, which was commuted, and he was released early on 28/12/1855........his stated destination was "Gone to sea".   I can find no information for him after this date, except the possibilities suggested by the 1861 and 1871 England Census.   My difficulty with these is that:

(1):     1861 has him married to Emma (RG9/2099/101, p.7):

(2):     1871 has him married to Charlotte (RG10/2680/22, p.15) but I can find no death entry for
           Emma.

Can anyone suggest, or possibly find, definitive entries for him please ???

Thank you.
