Suarts of Lancaster
« on: Sunday 14 May 17 06:57 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm interested in gaining more information on George Suart born c1751 in Lancaster.
He was the son of Edward Suart (possibly Edmund) and with his father seems to have conducted business as a merchant bringing in goods from the West Indies.
In February 1791 he married Ann Howard who died in January 1792.
He may have married again to a Mary?
He possibly had at least 4 children: John, William Harriet & Anne (Anna) (John & William are named in his will of 1837). I believe these children were born to Mary? but cannot find any reference to their births
In 1809 he married Susannah Creasey and by this time he was conducting business in London in partnership with John Simpson.
He died in 1837.
Ann, his daughter is my 4th great grandmother but information about her seems scarce.
Any information would be gratefully received.

Hi Maddy,
Yes I have that information as well. I just don't seem to be able to find his marriage to Mary? and the birth of any of his children. Whether they were born in Lancaster before he moved to London or born in London. Thanks for looking though.

Still can't find a marriage to Mary  ???, but did see these marriage notices:

"On Monday was married , Mr George Suart, merchant, in Lancaster to Miss Howard, only daughter of John Howard, Esq."
Leeds Intelligencer, Tuesday, February 23, 1790

"On Friday last at Camberwell, by the Rev T Sampson, Mr A Thomas Rowlandson Esq of Watling St to Miss Suart, daughter of George Suart Esq of the Grove, Camberwell"
Morning Chronicle, London, Monday, August 4, 1800
Not sure if this is one your George's daughters?

sorry, ignore this - obviously too early to be one of George's  :-[

His will (on ancestry) states on the second page --- the seven children of my said wife --
Mary, Charlotte, Anne, Harriet, George, Edward and John.
On the first page his said wife is Susannah.

Based upon the order in which they are written I would guess it is their birth order.

Amended
Based on the burial of Mary Suart 15 February 1854 age 56 at Heston, abode Sutton makes her birth date about 1798

So as he did not marry Susannah until 1809, the reference that all his seven children are of his wife Susannah has to be an error by the person writing down his instructions re his will.

Marriage license of George Suart & Susannah Creasey states he was of Richmond Surrey,  Susannah
Creasey was of St Mary Newington. Dated 18 March 1809.
So perhaps we need to check Surrey registers as well
