Help with deciphering please
« on: Sunday 14 May 17 09:07 BST (UK) »
Hi there
Could anyone help me please with this bap for Patience SPICER dau of John and Jone (John is also the Rector) Transcription says 8 Aug 1591. I can sort of decipher Patience in the middle of a line of baptisms 1591 line 2 and after the number 13.

Does it just says "Patience Spicer ... daughter of John" ?

Thanks a lot
Meegan

Thanks Barbara - I couldn't pick August or 8 out of that.
Wonder if he would have been "clerck" if he was the Rector, his name (or a John Spicer) is written at the bottom of the page as Minister - have attached.

Perhaps it could be Patience's grandfather who was the minister and her father a clerk? Haven't ventured that far back!
Thanks a lot
Meegan

Hi meegan the term Clerk meant a clergyman.

Jennifer - the baptisms aren't allocated one line each, they follow on from each other.

The 1st line and beginning of the 2nd line read (I think)

Agnes Fissher the daughter of Richard Fissher hus[andman] was bapti
sed  June 13 Patience Spicer…….

Knowing that clerk means clergyman is also a great help as there are some more in the family
Cheers
