Looked like Royal Artillery to me too.  Nice photos.  The best way to tell would be to get his records from the MOD.  That would also tell you the exact unit and dates as the Royal Artillery was huge in WWII.  Then using that you could get an idea of what he was involved in by the way of locations, action etc.

But be warned - it is addictive!

Thanks all for the replies.

He passed away in 1975 so once I have his death certificate I'll send off for his service record.

The man in question is my adopted Grandfather, my father was a 'war baby' and was adopted by the man in the pictures when he married my natural Grandmother. So, I now have three Grandfathers who fought in the World Wars. The man in question here, My natural Grandfather (who I've only managed to find out was American USAAF) and my Grandfather on my Mother's side who was in his 60s when he had my mother and fought in WW1!

I'll update this thread when I find out more.
