You could also look at the file in windows explorer, or whatever file management system you have, to see what size the file is. Compare this with a blank Excel file. This will tell you whether the data is still there but hidden in some way.

As well as the size, have you checked when it was last saved and when it was created? Select File/Info (Excel 2010 I don't know about other versions) and this will tell you 'Created' and 'Last saved'. Does the last saved correspond to when you made your last edit?

Try opening Excel first and select you file by File/Open. Its worth a try if you haven't already done so.

Also if you select print, does it show a print preview of yopur data?
