Corrine,

A copy of the birth record can be obtained from the General Register Office (see this link: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/most_customers_want_to_know.asp#Overseas) and the relevant GRO references for the birth registration [as taken from Findmypast] are: Volume 7 & Page 290.

At this point I would like to propose that you now ask the Moderator of this (Beginners) board if this thread of posts can now be relocated to the Glamorgan board.

I feel that this will be helpful because the Cardiff-related nature of some of the previous responses suggests that the Glamorgan-focused experts will be better placed to clarify matters for you.

In particular it may be that one of them may know whether or not the Cardiff custody records for November/December 1887 have survived - as they may contain key information regarding Charles Wilfred Paris.

Willyam,

First : I tried to find my great-grand-father on GRO Index on line and the answer is 'no record'. Maybe I missed something ?  :-[.
I find nothing concerning orders from abroad (I'm in France....).Do you know if it's possible ?

Then : If you think It's better to relocate these posts, it's ok for me. How can I ask it ?  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Once again I thank you for all your help.
Corinne

I have moved your topic.

With regards to ordering certificates, the overseas records indexes are not online at the GRO, only a range of births and deaths for England & Wales.

go to www.gro.gov.uk

select order certificates online

select register/login from top right of the screen

enter your user name and password or register as a new customer if you don't have a login.

If you are a new customer the GRO will send a verification email before you can proceed

once you are in, select place an order

the next bit is important, you are trying to order an overseas event which are lower down the screen.

select births overseas events

for all events, select the circle to confirm that you have the GRO index reference number  which is the information posted by willyam

the year of the event is 1881, the entry is 1881-1885 but you can only put in 4 numbers

submit that information and go to the next screen where you can enter his name and the reference numbers in the fields marked with *

the system then defaults to sending the certificate by post. You cannot use the DX service and if you select priority you will pay £23.40 instead of £9.25 but the fee includes postage. I don't think there is any need for you to have a priority service.

submit that information and you can then go forward to the payment screens.

Hope this helps.

Hello,
I've just received from GRO the copy of my great-grand father Charles Wilfred Paris' certificate of birth thanks to the information given by Willyam.
Unfortunately, there's no information concerning the residence of his parents Charles Wilfred Paris and Clarisse Beysseresse.
It's only written that the father (Charles wilfred Paris) was cook and steward on board Barque 'Saga' of Picton, N.S.
A new crew list to find !!!
If the occupation of Charles senior (steward) is a reliable indication, the Charles Wilfred Paris quoted in the South Wales Echo was my ancestor.
Can I ask again : Does someone know how I can obtain the crew list of barque Longfellow in 1887or of barque Saga in 1884 ?
I thank you all for your help and clues.
