LWT Elizabeth Merrie 1622 in 2 parts
« on: Tuesday 16 May 17 06:27 BST (UK) »
Help please in deciphering the 1st page of this will. I have most of it but lost track toward the end. There is another page which I will post later. For some reason there are two different versions with two different folio numbers. The second one I am posting is similar but not exactly like the first and there is some editing done on it.

My transcription is from the "unedited" version. Maybe once that is transcribed someone would be brave enough to see what is written "between the lines" on the edited version and how that changed what I think is the original. Here's what I have thus far:

Richard Merrie of Leasham being _____ but being of goode and perfect minde
and remembrance thanks be to God for it Doe make this my last will & testament

Skelbooze (if I have it right?) sounds like local dialect? Some sort of hut or outhouse?

Curcher - no idea, but no doubt someone else will know.

I think you’re correct with ‘a busshell of wheate’.

 - not a curtain. A ‘Curcher’ (?) Perhaps someone will know what this is!

Edit. I see Bookbox has just beaten me to it!
Ah well, never hurts to get more than one opinion!
"Writinges" had me stumped for a while! But I have come across this before on old wills.

ah Ha!
In the second image, in the writing squeezed in between the lines at the bottom, the 'cucher' is written 'Kirchife' - so what we would now say is a 'kerchief' is my thought.
As this is a lady passing something on to another lady, sounds pretty likely.

Good thinking, goldie  :)

Can you get anywhere with Skelbooze, if that is the correct reading?

Mostly the extra lines squeezed in between the others seem to be the same as the first copy - it would seem whoever wrote this second copy out omitted some, and they have been added in by someone else - they are written in a different hand.
There is a bit more on the end.

From half way along the second inter-lined line -

Itm I give Wm Robinson xijd Itm I give unto James Addas xijd Itm I give
... to Richard Baley one cowe Item to Willam Baley one
Brasse pott Item I give to Agnes Hood one Cowe in the occupacon of
John Tishe (?) Item I give to my two Daughters Jane and Agnes one
chist where in my [         ] Item I give to Robte Skelton
                                                       sonne.....

I can’t make what what she had in the chest - will keep looking.

In the second clip it seems to be written ' Skelbooses'  :-\
 - definitely a long middle 's' this time.
Not much help!
