LADD of Little Mongeham
« on: Tuesday 16 May 17 06:53 BST (UK) »
Looking for parish records from Little Mongeham parish for surname LADD/LADE between 1720-1780 - in particular HANNAH LADD, born circa 1734 and her parents.
Apparently these records are housed at the Canterbury Cathedral Archives.
Any help would be appreciated.

There are no Registers for Little Mongeham.

I have checked the BTs for Sutton by Dover, which has many recorded baptisms from LM, but did not find a single baptism entry for Lad, Ladd or Lade between 1720 and 1780.

A regretful,
Tony

Not sure if I am the one to answer this but, there was this marriage at Sutton by Dover,

1760 Oct 23 (by Banns) Alexander Davison to Hannah Ladd (as written by the Minister) but signed as Lade.  Both were said to be of Little Mongeham and the witnesses were John Lade and Matthew Prichard (P.C. or similar)

Thank you Tony,
So only living there at the time of marriage and not necessarily born there  ;D  Could also be baptised as Ann  :-\

Thankyou to all for your help & replies.  I descend from Alexander Davison & Hannah Ladd m 1760.  I have found other LADD/LADE marriages of Little Mongeham, ie

John Lade of L.M. m Rachel Broadley at Sutton17/9/1764
Vincent Lade of L.M. 30yrs. m Ruth Searles at Sutton by Dover 11/10/1774
Margaret Ladd of L.M. m John Hudson at L.M. 6/10/1760  (Vincent Ladd of L.M. Bondsman)

I wonder whether these are siblings of Hannah

Thanks again for your help.  My search continues

John

One possibility could be that the Lade Family were non-conformists.  There are many subsequent Lade entries registered at the Baptist Chapel in Eythorn.  No help but it may go some way to explaining the difficulty of finding any baptismal record!

My next theory is even more clutching at straws.  There is a marriage (by Licence) at Ringwould as follows,

1732 Oct 5 Vincent LADE (of Nonington) to Margaret BRADLEY (of Ringwould)

Could these be Hannah's parents?

On the three marriages you mention Vincent Lade signed as a Witness.  The marriage of Margaret Ladd to John Hudson (note signed as Hutson!) had Vincent Lade as Bondsman.  This could not have been a sibling (if age correct as Vincent's marriage in 1774) as he would have only been 16!

Hannah and the three other Lades marrying at Sutton by Dover (from LM) do appear to be siblings.

So, there you have it another of my mad theories, just needs to be proved, or more likely disproved.  My next step is to see if there could be a Will left by a Vincent Lade of Little Mongeham, or thereabouts.

I quite like your mad theories and am watching with interest as I have in my extended tree Stephen Ladd who is in Sutton in 1841 (born Ripple)
