Dear All, this is the first time that I have posted here. I have just started looking into my family history, having ordered my father's birth certificate My father is dead and he knew little of his family history as he hated his father, who committed suicide in 1958. I found his mother's name and it has gone mad since then as I am so intrigued by what I have learned. GW Harding was born on the Isle of Man in 1844, had 5 children with his wife Mary (born Wells) and when she died he married my great great grandmother. Her name was Ellen. I think she must have been born McCloud or some variant of that name but I can find nothing about her anywhere. They were married in 1878 in West Derby. According to the censuses she was born in 1861/2 in Ireland. Has anyone researched her and got more information please?

I'm not seeing any George Harding marriage to an Ellen in West Derby district in 1878.  Please can you clarify what you know about the marriage?

Nor can I find the first marriage, or a George William Harding born circa 1844 Isle of Wight??

I see that the Jun qtr 1897 birth registration for the daughter Norah born 18 April 1897 ("Nora" aged 3 in 1901) shows her mother's maiden name as McCloud.

John James Harding birth reg Jun qtr 1891 Liverpool, mmn McLurg.

Baptism 5 Apr 1891 as John James Harding confirms he is John & Ellen's son.  He was 1 month old, the only child with them, in the 1891 census.

Isle of Man rather than Isle of Wight :)

In 1881 he is in Everton as George W Harding aged 37, with Mary 33, Martha 12, Hannah 11, Harriet 9, Minnie 4 and George W. 8mo: RG11/3666/77/33.

Yes, I was just going to say that the George Harding, son, born 1881 had mmn of Wells so George couldn't have been married to Ellen as this point.
