Philip Walter Peeke is my great uncle and I have details of his birth and marriage.
I know that he joined the Navy as a boy in 1871 and have documentation to show this. However, this documentation also shows that in 1876 he 'ran away' from his ship while in Table Bay - and that is the last trace I can find of him.
He was married to a Mary Jane Northcott and had a daughter Amelia - Amelia died in 1886. According to the 1881 census Mary Jane was using the surname Peeke, however, in the 1891 census she had reverted to the surname of Northcott and in 1893 she married James Henry Peeke. James Henry is my great grandfather - the brother of Philip Walter.
Any help anyone can give would be gratefully received.
Mmm.. Philip does seem pretty elusive
Just in case this helps anyone else looking Philip W Peek on the 1861 census

Do you have the 1893 marriage certificate of James Henry Peeke to Mary Jane Northcott
confirming both their father's names?
Does it say Mary Jane was widowed?
