St Anne's church Belfast

My ancestor Alexander Dunbar may have been baptised in St. Anne' church in Belfast, in 1828 . His address at the time just says Shankhill, which must mean Shankhill road? I would like to know whether this was a Catholic or Presbyterian church?

Shankill is an area in Belfast so that doesn't mean they lived on what is now Shankill Road. There's no St. Anne's Presbyterian Church in the area.

St. Anne’s baptisms are on the Ulster Historical Foundation site (pay to view). There is an Alexander Dunbar on that site baptised 1828, father Daniel. You would need to view the record to verify but it could well be St Anne’s. In which case Alexander was Church of Ireland.

thanks everyone for the info. The baptism for Alexander Dunbar on the Ulster Historical Foundation website for 1828 is the only one I have found for Alexander and his father Daniel, the only thing is, all of my gr gr census records have his birth abt 1842, and his death record for 1919 has his age for 72.I know his fathers occupation was a land steward - I don't know whether there are any records for this type of occupation?

What year & where is the 1st census you have Alexander on?

The difference seems a lot?

It's entirely possible that if Alexander was baptised in Belfast that 1) the record doesn't survive or 3) if a record does survive it is not available online
