death reference

Trying to find death index reference for Richard Bulmer  :-\

1861 living with family at Belmont Colliery, Pittington, Durham
DRO found burial 1863 (address Belmont Colliery, Pittington, Durham)

i realise i could order the death certificate with the year but just wondering what the reference is!

Durham Chronicle 25 Dec 1863 has this death notice:

At Belmont Colliery, 20th inst, Mr Richard Bowmer, coal miner, aged 41.

It is in the British  Newspaper Archive (which is also on FindMyPast). I think if you register for the British Newspaper Archive you receive three free articles. Suggest you try doing a free search before doing anything else!

20th inst. means he died on the 20th December. Chambers Dictionary has this - inst.abbreviation in the present month, used in formal correspondence.

If the death had been in the previous month it would probably have said 20th ult.
