hi, am looking to trace Catherine Ferns Ryan who emigrated from Scotland to the USA 1930. After being met by her sister Molly Ryan in Brooklyn, New York, I have no information on her and am stuck to find out anything else. Does any one have any ideas how I can look forward on her? Thx Kathy

There is a possible petition for naturalization files New York Southern District - 19 November 1941 - Catherine Ryan/Clifford born 1907 and aged 34 years. 1035 Park Ave. NYC.  Petition 369513
There were a few Catherine Ryan so doesn't necessarily mean this is yours.

Is this Molly ?  There was a New York passenger List for Mary Ryan born Uddington 1903 - aged 23 years -  - arrived 18 October 1925 on the Transylvania. Mother Mary Ryan -  36 C Fallin Scotland. Also travelling a sister Anastasia Ryan aged 20 years - same  mother. Final destination Brooklyn.

Alo passenger list to New York - 24 November 1931 and a return UK 13 April 1932.

Looking at the sister Mary Ryan - threw up a naturalization document for a John Mulligan born 1 July 1900 who married a Mary Ryan 29 October 1933. John Joseph Mulligan passed away in Hillsborough Florida March 1983 - burial Greenwood Cemetery Eustis Lake County Florida.

Hi Sandra, thank you for all your work on Catherine Ferns Ryan. Born Uddingston, 1907 emigrated to the US via Canada (maybe that was a stopover from Glasgow as she would have certainly gone to her sister Mary Ryan later Mulligan). It could be she married Clifford, but I cannot trace her further in the US, apart from a random entry in a Californian gazette. The Ferns part of her sme is pretty special. I picked up from a person on Ancesrty that she MAY have had a daughter Doris. The lady whose tree it was, had a private tree and she hasnt replied to my question about Catherine herself. You have thrown up a whole lot more information on this family than I could find. How did you find the marriages? What register would I use? I have very little idea how to go about searching records in the USA, other than Ancestry and that is a hit and miss with screeds of random hits.
How do you find Social Security Numbers? That seems to be a key in finding people. Is there an accessible records system we can get into?
