Ann Hampton WEEKS A 20 year Mystery
« on: Thursday 18 May 17 21:30 BST (UK) »
Ann Hampton WEEKS of the parish of Market Lavington married 19th Aug 1797 to William COOPER of Urchfont.

William was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth COOPER, he was born 1773 in Urchfont. It is likely that his father was a Mr HARRIS.
I assume this because some of the children of William and Ann were baptized as COOPER alias HARRIS, others as HARRIS alias COOPER and the last child as HARRIS.

Ann appears in the 1851 census in Urchfont as Ann HARRIS age 75, a widow,  with 2 sons living with her, James and George.

My problem is Who Is Ann?

I hoped that all would be revealed with the Wiltshire parish registers being online.......

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for looking!
It is 20+ years since I trawled through microfilm of the Lavingtons and Urchfont parish registers - I hoped Ann would appear in a neighbouring parish. Tho she did say in 1851 that her birthplace was Lavington.

Does the 1841 show her as born in county yes/no?

I wouldn't stick with that as a definite as sometimes people didn't/don't know they were born elsewhere.

Not so much nowadays as they have the info. on their BCs but without looking or being old enough to need to look they may think otherwise.

I moved when my daughter was an infant to a different county & she believed/thought this was where she was born as her only memories were from living in this house from childhood but as she grew older she realised this was not the case.

Unfortunately the 1841 census for Urchfont has not survived.

Have you researched these other Weeks who married St Mary, Market Lavington a few years either side of Ann Hampton Weeks Marriage?
Benjamin 1794
George 1792
Jane 1789
John 1789
Ann 1780
(FreeREG)

If you can track them down they may be Siblings.
