William WILLSON carpenter, born 1750s of Wadenhoe
« on: Saturday 20 May 17 04:36 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the baptism entry for the following William WILLSON, carpenter in 1777. I am guessing that he might be the son of the following Thomas WILSON. (If not, then possibly the son of Thomas's brother, William (bapt 1731).)

From previous help, I know that Thomas WILSON (1726-1783) carpenter of Wadenhoe married (1750) Hannah MARSHALL (-1804) and had a son James WILLSON (1754-1819).

I am guessing that the son James was the carpenter listed in the "Northamptonshire Militia Lists 1777" by Victor A Hatley (1973) page 132 ;
"Navisford Hundred . . . . Wadenhoe list . . . .
John WILLSON, sert. [servant]
William WILLSON, carpenter . . . .
James WILLSON, carpenter, deaf . . . ."

Also, from previous help, a William WILLSON & Elizabeth, had a son William (bapt 1793) who became a carpenter. I guess that the father William was the carpenter in the above 1777 Militia List.

Can anyone could help identify the parents of that father William, please?

Regards
Grantley

Hi.

There does not seem to be a match on the Northants Baptism Indexes for a William
Willson or other variants 1777. I could be wrong.

Neither does any one seem to match for the other William.

Other villages near by are Pilton, Lilford, Aldwinkle's, Titchmarsh, Thorpe Achurch, etc going towards Huntingdonshire.

William & Elizabeth had several other children born in Wadenhoe, the oldest of which was Sally in 1785

The Marriage Index has a marriage of a William Wilson of Wadenhoe to Elizabeth Tipler 17 Oct 1784 in Northampton St Giles.

There's an Elizabeth Wilson of Wadenhoe buried at Wadenhoe in 1827 (13 May) aged 67
and a William Wilson of Wadenhoe buried 13 Dec 1828 aged 69

Which would make William born 1759, and at age 18 just old enough to be listed on the 1777 Militia.

Unfortunately, the only baptism for a William is 1762, son of James and Isabella.

BUT their other children in the post-1750 Baptisms Index are Ruth (1752), Ruth (1753) and James (1755).

Is it possible that William was baptised late, being the youngest?

Thank you, that just opened more doors  :D

The James (who married Isabella) you mentioned was a brother of my Thomas WILLSON. James being baptised at Benefield in 1717, the son of John & Ruth WILLSON.

I now see that James married Isabella EVERST in 1742.

I also see that ancestry.com has Wadenhoe images in their Northamptonshire 1532-1812 collection. So I can look them up at the library. Yahoo.
