Lionel John BAKER

Lionel John BAKER born in London 20 Jan 1834, son of John Knight BAKER and Rachael MINCHIN.  Left London for Australia about 1851 [aged 16 or 17 years old].  Married Mrs Maryann HENNESSEY nee ROURKE 14 July 1851 in Sydney NSW.  Their daughter Mary Ann was born 15 December 1851.  In the BDM.NSW.GOV.AU Registry there is a second marriage, 1856, recorded between Lionel John and Maryann [Registration No. 284/1856 V1851284 97].  There is also a death recorded in the BDM.NSW.GOV.AU for Patrick Hennessey which shows that he died in 1851.  In May 1859 a warrant for his arrest was issued, for leaving his wife and children 'without means of support'. 
In 1866 he ends up on the East Coast of the North Island of NZ and his son John Lionel Baker is born later in that year. 
In 1875 he marries his third wife, Esther Elizabeth BELLSHAW of Wairoa, Hawkes Bay NZ; they had 9 children.
Lionel John BAKER died in Wairoa on 7 January 1899

Thank you for your response and for the details you have provided which belong to him and his first wife.  As I mentioned before, Lionel John was married 3 times; I descend from the second marriage. 

This is the 'first of 2" records of Lionel John's marriage to Maryann in 1851:

Lionel is misspelt here but common as everything back then was written by hand.

I am curious as to why there would be a second marriage 5 years later between the same 2 people.
