Llanfihangel or Llanfihangel GM
« on: Saturday 20 May 17 09:50 BST (UK) »
Thank in advance for any help that can be given.

My ggg grandparents lived at Winllan Fram, Bettws GG.

I have attached an extract from the 1851 census showing the "where born" on the first line (Griffith Davies) as Corwen and on the second line (Mary Davies (Hughes)) as, i think, Llanfihangel.  If it is Llanfihangel, would this be Llanfihangel (30+ miles away) or would it be Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr (4 miles away) shortened to Llanfihangel?

Thank you,

Nic

Think that post was to decide whether it was Llanfihangel or not. This one is which one it is ~

There are three Llanfihangel s in Merionethshire:

Llanfihangel Glyn y Myfyr

Llanfihangel y Pennant

Llanfihangel y Traethau

It's possibly the nearest but we can't be sure - Do you have her in other censuses?

The 1861 census gives it as Llanfihangel, Denbigh.

On North Wales BMD there are two possible matches in 1839 in Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, St Michael

Griffith Davies to Mary Edwards or Mary Hughes.

Thanks for the pointers so far; I think that I will have to leave it as unresolved at the moment and try to find a parish register maybe?

Nic

Edit:  From the census Mary was born in Llanfihangel about 1817.  I have found:
1815: Mary, daughter of John and Margaret Hughes of Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr (4 miles)
1839: On Mary and Griffith's marriage cert they got married in Llanfihangel GM so that seems the likely place of her birth however, the age is only shown as "of full age".
