Dunscore Graveyard - look up request.
« on: Saturday 20 May 17 10:48 BST (UK) »
Hi.  It is quite some years since I have posted anything on here.  I am researching my ancestor Agnes Blacklock nee McDougal.  She died at Glenriddell Cottage near Moniaive but is (according to her death certificate) buried in the newer burial area of Dunscore.  I was up there last week, staying over at the Auldgirth Inn.  I had to laugh when I got to Dunscore - for which I had purposefully stayed over night for - to find that lots of the gravestones are hidden behind support corrocated sheets and scaffolding. Luck was definitely against me.  May I ask - does anyone have access to the burial index or images for Agnes' possible gravestone?  Thank you in anticipation.

I think this who you are looking for taken from the memorial inscriptions for Dunscore Village Graveyard.
Sacred to the memory of Francis Blacklock son of John Blacklock who died at Speddoch 3rd September 1822 aged 16 months.  Also John Blacklock who died at Tenby, South Wales 6th April, 1836 aged 29 years.  Also Thomas Blacklock who died at Dumfries 10th February 1841 aged 26 years.  Also George Blacklock who died at Glenriddle 30th January 1847 aged 34 years. Also John Blacklock their father who died at Glenriddle 11th March 1849 aged 71 years. Also Agness McDougal their mother who died at Glenriddle 18th November 1856 aged 78 years. Erected by Robert Blacklock.

There is also another inscription for a William Blacklock who died at Speddoch in 1853 aged 83 years which I can type out if you think it is the same family.

Re: Dunscore Graveyard - look up request. (RESOLVED WITH THANKS)

Hello Morag.

Thank you so very, very much.  It was not from lack of effort but bad luck that prevented me finding the grave.  I think that the Speddoch Blacklock may be related.  I did manage a quick photograph of that gravestone but it was in late evening light.

Once again thank you so very much.  I will update the status as resolved.
