Montagu Smith of Hawkes Bay

Hello, I am trying to find some information about Montagu Smith, who died in Hastings 22 Jan 1945 and his wife Ethel Eliza Williams (also died 1945) - they were married in 1901. Hoping to find out parents of both of these two. Any help is much appreciated!

There are a couple of trees on Ancestry that give his birthplace as Aberdeenshire in Scotland and parents as John G Smith and Jessie Robertson.

You will need to get their marriage printout to confirm this and Ethel Eliza's parents.

Montagu's brother Sydney also came to NZ and was in the Marton area. Buried at the Tutaenui Cemetery near Marton.

Thanks Minniehaha. Trying to reconstruct a tree here for a DNA match who appears to match not only on my mother's but also my father's side. They have a very limited tree online :(

It appears the spelling in the main, was Montague rather than Montagu..........

Although the parents of the bride appear to have been alive in 1901, Ethel Williams was given away by a Mrs. Shaw, with one Amy Shaw being a bridesmaid.

This may be that Shaw family.......
