You probably have searched Family Search, but just in case.

1841 Census Hemington Somerset.

William and Elizabeth
Giles
Susana
Sarah
also William Greenhill
George Dix

I notice numerous Grists in Wiltshire.

The so-called "Pensioners who served in Canada" record has a death date in the left margin: 18 April 1840. It fits with a GRO death in Melksham RD (age 57), and a burial in Trowbridge (St James).

This is the trouble, without extensive research of wider family groups. I found Grist's at Laycock and Trowbridge and other places in Wiltshire. Melksham is just down the road from Laycock.

Trowbridge was in Melksham RD until 1936. This family in Back Street, Trowbridge in 1841 might be worth researching:

Elizabeth Grist 50 weaver
Ann Grist 14
Elizabeth Grist 12
Job Grist 5

All born in-county

Thank you for your responses.
I'll be sure to check them out.
My Grists were based in Hemington from the mid 16th century onwards, although a few occasionally strayed across the border into Wiltshire.

I have many people by the name of Grist in my tree. These lived in villages around the Mendips such as East Cranmore, West Cranmore, Doulting, Nunney, Frome and Shepton Mallet. The main problem with research on this line has been the number of name variants of Grist. I have had contact with direct descendants of the Grist family and discovered one who lived close to me.

There is a burial of a William Grist in Chelwood on 28 December 1853, aged 70. It shows his abode as Chelwood but that is about 10 miles from Hemington. I suspect this may be the William Grist living in Chelwood in the 1851 census. He is married to Mary in that.

There is an Elizabeth Grist in Hemington in the 1841 census. It is impossible to decide if the relationship to the head of household is wife, or something else. The Elizabeth Grist in Trowbridge in the 1841 has some children possibly. There are names shown of Ann Grist, age 14, Elizabeth Grist, age 12, and Job Grist, age 5, all born Wiltshire.

Jo.

Jo
My Grists seem to have largely confined themselves to Hemington, Kilmersdon, Coleford and Radstock, although there are a few further afield in the US and Australia, so I don't think there's any connection with the family(ies) of the same name in the villages you mention.
