Can you please be specific about the information you are offering.

The Father of all of Maisie's Nicol siblings is Alexander Nicol (eldest boy named after him) all children are born to him and Margaret Susannah and he was a carpenters contractor.
On his death certificate all children are named, including baby Susannah who died as a baby in 1883 - Maisie is not on his death certificate

Who are the six siblings? Alexander, Margaretta(born Tas), Mary Louisa(born Tas), Alice Lillie, Harrison Geoffrey, Phyllis Olive

"..One sister, the second girl"    Who is this....name, and married name please. Mary Louisa Nicol married name Mary Louisa Gibbs

"There is no doubt she is not fully related."   Why do you have no doubt about this? Because Maisie was born in 1900 and the father of all the other children died in 1894

"..We aren't sure."    Not sure of what? How Maisie's son found out she was born in Carlton

Can you name the uncle and sister (painful research). Geoffrey Alexander GALE and Judith Isobel GALE (married name GLEDHILL)

"...The mother had no mother herself and while all her siblings go back to live with the father she doesn't."   What does this mean...who are the mother, the mother, the father and the siblings? ELLEN CORNISH (Maisie's suspected birth mother) lost her mother in 1884, Ellen's siblings all lived with there father as per electoral role in AscotVale then further in Ivanhoe. Ellen was living and working out of the home while the others lived at home.

Apart from the marriage certificate, 1928, what is the earliest evidence you have of Maisie being in the NICHOL family.......photos, letters etc. Electoral role in 1921

Do you have the marriage certificate, 1928?  If you have this certificate, can you please list all the information on it. Married 28th April 1928 at St John's Presbyterian Church Elsternwick, Groom - William George Gale Bachelor born in Talbot Surveyor's assistance age 26 residence 84 Point Nepean Road Elsternwick, father William James Gale (gentleman) mother Isabella Mitchell
Bride MAISIE Ivy Nicol Spinster Clerk 28 10 Thomson St Gardenvale father Alexander Nicol (contractor) Mother Margaret Susan Ord married by License
Witness's Margaret Susanah Nicol
Horace Symons (Maisie's cousins husband)

Oh this is confusing reading this last post.  Would you please post quotes from other posts using the Insert quote button above.  Alternatively use coloured font for the quotes.

There is no doubt she is not fully related.

Have you thought about some DNA testing?   She may not be related at all.

Cheers

Thank you!
We would have to DNA test with cousins in NSW - we are in VIC - they are the only existing blood nicols still around that we know of.
They weren't overly helpful initially

Regarding DNA, are any of Maisie's children alive?  If so they'd be your best best for DNA.  Your next best bet are grandchildren of Maisie.

"I cannot believe that Maisie would have gone her whole life not being told by SIX older siblings!"

How do you know that Maisie was unaware that Alexander NICHOL was not her father?. It is very difficult to confirm a negative.

If the will of Margaret NICHOL, d. 1944, produced resentment about Maisie's place in this family, do you mean that this was the first that Maisie knew about her origins?

Where was this family living 1900 - ~ 1915, years of formal education for Maisie and the NICHOLS siblings?. You might be able to access school records to find her.

Do you have any photos of Maisie and of the NICHOL family to see if there is any family resemblance?

Can you direct me to the 1921 electoral listing for Maisie......address, electorate...exact name.

If Maisie is born 15 Apr 1900, she would enrol to vote ...early 1921. Just an observation, but I wonder if that enrolment would be recorded and processed for inclusion in printed listing for the same year?.

At age 28, Maisie is two years older than husband William George GALE at marriage, 1928.

It might be worth considering that Maisie is older than 28, and cut a few years off her age so as to reduce difference in age to husband.  Human vanity, but you see it quite often in the days when you did not need to show proof of identity.

What was the estate of Margaret NICHOL, d. 1944?.  Have you seen this will?.

What is the source for the birth date, 15 Apr 1900, for Maisie?
