Death of William McMeekin, July 4, 1854
« on: Tuesday 23 May 17 05:47 BST (UK) »
In the Belfast newsletter of July 7, 1854, there is a death notice for Wm. McMeekin, age 74. I can't make out the place but it looks like Ballywee Nursery. Is that a possible place? I can't make out the first word past the letter w, and not sure of the second word but looks somewhat like nursery. I have been looking for the death of William McMeekin, who was still alive in 1847 as per a letter that I have but is referred to as old. I am wondering if this is the same William McMeekin who married Susannah Boyd in 1816 in Ballyeaston and possible uncle of Margaret Beggs nee Boyd. Margaret's husband Thomas Beggs took over the land of his wife's uncle in 1831. William lived in Ballyvoy, Co. Antrim, when his children were born 1821-1829.

It is Ballywee Nursey. Mentioned in another thread of yours in 2015- have you ruled out the other possibility?

Might be the same place mentioned in 1918 directory-
Ferguson, John, The Nursery, Ballywee, Parkgate

Griffith's Valuation (1862) shows an Annie McMeekin in Ballywee townland- perhaps looking at the historical map might show 'Ballywee Nursey.'

Thank you so much, Aghadowey. It was very interesting to look at those maps, and I did find Ballywee Nursery, with great difficulty.
Also  thanks for pointing me back to the previous posting mentioning the two  deaths of Wm McMeekins which I had forgotten. I did try to pursue the first death of Wm in 1851 and will now get back to it as it seems the more likely of the two. Partly because of the mention of Rashee and partly because of the age as he is referred to as old in the letter of 1847 that I have. It was also mentioned that he was probably too old to emigrate and likely to die soon. I did not have success before in pursuing the 1851 death.

Thank you BallyaltikilliganG.  It is useful to know the former names of Ballyvoy and Ballywee  as I have run across these former names in my family tree.  I am thinking that the William McMeekin in Ballywee in 1833 could be the one who died in 1854.  My Thomas Beggs took over William's land in 1831 and I did find him listed in 1833 in Douglasland.  Now  I would need to find out the exact location of Thomas' land which would backtrack to William's land.   Thomas did acquire more land but the piece he had in 1833 would be the piece that he took over from William.
 Thanks for your help.
