COMPLETED - Death of 3 PAYNE children in Forest Gate 1888
« on: Wednesday 24 May 17 09:56 BST (UK) »
Hi!  Whilst looking up the burial of my Great Uncle Alfred John Perkins, I noticed on the burial register page that there were three Payne children who all died at the same time - 2 August 1888 - at 7 Forest Side Cottages, Forest Gate, East London.

This piqued my interest but I cannot find anything online about what happened.

I was wondering, out of sheer noseyness, does anyone have access to any newspaper archives to see what occurred?  My guess is that it was probably a house fire?

I have attached the register page ...

Many thanks, Nina

A greengrocer bought some plums from a market, he put some rotten decomposed  ones aside to be burnt, but the Payne children got hold of them and ate them,  they died as a result of poisoning.

Poor little things I wonder if they were homeless as the informant was the undertaker J Mihlenstead,

No, they were not homeless. The father was William Payne a labourer.

All the undertakers are listed on the image, as are the registrars, in this case the Coroner,  it doesn't mean the undertaker was the informant.
