Cobbold V Rushbrook - 1839?
« on: Wednesday 24 May 17 21:47 BST (UK) »
Evening everyone,

Today I'm looking for any information regarding a dispute between Robert Knipe Cobbold (a miller?) from Eye and a millwright called Rushbrook from Diss.  My note suggests that this was in court in July or August 1839, but I have been unable to locate anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

British Newspaper Archive has lots of entries around 1837 for the sale of the Eye Brewery by Robert Knipe Cobbold.  Extensive maltings & premises.

He was buried 15 Feb 1859 age 66 Bredfield.  Residence Bredfield White House - described as a mansion was advertised for sale in May 1859.  He may have owned mills but as to him being a miller?

Was he connected to Richard Cobbold Rector of Wortham?

Hi Keziah2,

This is my man.  As he was a brewer he may have had a mill or two and beer, bread & flour are often linked.  I think your right though, its more likely that he was the mill owner than the miller.

Thanks for looking him up.  I'll investigate the BNA.

You were right...... click the following link & see page 7 http://www.suffolkmills.org.uk/newsletters/034%20November%201985.pdf

reported in Bury & Norwich Post 14 August 1839 a mill built by Rushbrook for Cobbold seemingly cost £1000 instead of the quoted £500.  Rushbrook took action.  The resulting mill was 38ft 7inches high with an 8ft high base.    Enjoy.

Thanks Keziah2,

I am a member and thought I'd read all the newsletters (maybe I forgot?).  I'll look at it this afternoon as I'm off to Oxford this morning.

Cheers,
