This error appears after a moment every time I attempt to open .doc format file: This document may be corrupt.
Is there .doc file opener besides Microsoft Word?

The proprietary MS-DOC binary file format that is used in legacy Microsoft Word products,
includes the basic structures and key concepts for interacting with it programmatically.
The basic unit of data in a Word document is a character, which may include formatting and other non-visible characters, as well as ANSI and Unicode. All of the character data resides in the Word Document Stream. At the beginning of that stream is a structure called the File Information Block (FIB), which contains pointers to all of the data in the file.

1. You can open it with a hex editor but be prepared to be faced with what looks like a lot of
gobbledegook. If your data is intact it will still be there. If not the file is corrupt.

2. Open it in Word and copy and paste the data to a new Notepad file saving with the .txt
extension. Close and reopen Word and copy/paste the data from the text file into a
    new ms word .doc.

Be prepared for the loss of some/all of your data. Good luck

Jim
