Was Joseph senior from Bristol?

Is this him in 1851 Warwickshire

so if that is him he isn't yet with Louisa nor is he married

Retail brewer.  It does look likely as there is a Bristol baptism in 1825, parents Samuel & Mary.  He then seems to be with parents in Pershore St, Birmingham as a 16 yr old tailor in 1841 and still listed as a tailor at 63 Pershore St in an 1850 trade directory. There are no Newicks at that address in the 1851 census.

The switch from tailor to brewer seems to have been short-lived, given that he emigrated in 1853 as a tailor.

This is a possibility which I hadn't considered. There are 2 possibles on BMD 1851 Wolverhampton and 1852 Aston. Maybe Louisa Devey didn't m Joseph Newick and it's her child

Louisa Devey is mentioned on Joseph Jnr m in 1873 on F Search (as mentioned)

Joseph's age of 23 in that record suggests a birth abt 1850, which if right would mean he was born before the 1851 census.  Has Louisa been traced in that census?

Joseph's age varies depending on the US C: 18 in 1870 for eg 3 in 1855, 29 in 1880

Until I found this m record, there was no mention of his b place, just England. However as soon as Birmingham was recorded, it then clashed with the other Joseph b @1852 Birmingham 1871 English C

Yes he was bap 1825 to Samuel & Mary Ann Meash. He had a sister Mary Ann who was b @1813/84 and appears on the 1841 C

but no mention of place of b and I can find a m for her to ? Oram.
It is possible that the above Joseph emigrated to US in 1850 on the SS Java, he a Baker (he is not incl on the 1851 C with father etc). However if he is the same as Joseph with sister Oram on the 1851 C then it must be another Joseph

The plot thickens......there are just too may Josephs!

Sarah Elizabeth Oram, born 14 Jan 1837, was baptised at St Martin, Birmingham on 16 May 1842.

Parents: Charles Oram & Mary Ann.

Charles Oram married Mary Ann Newick at St James, Bristol on 21 November 1835.

Tiny bit more info from looking at the family search records - on the passenger list in 1853 it says "under 12 months" so if accurate he wasn't born before 1851. 

The word infant covers a multitude of ages so that should narrow it down a bit - do we have an exact date of travel?

Wish could find Louisa in 1851.
