Thank you Isobelw and Daisypetal that information rules out a child of Susan's.
djm297 - great detective work never spotted this before . Can't rule it out.

I think there has been some confusion over the 1882 marriage of Caroline COOPER. The index shows two possible grooms, which is where the name James HART seems to come from but looking at "London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921" Caroline married Daniel MCDONALD and James HART married Elizabeth TAMEN instead :)

Caroline COOPER    Mar Q 1882    Marylebone    1a 808
Other names with same reference
James HART James
Daniel MCDONALD
Elizabeth  TAMEN

Parish Church of St Marylebone
25th Feb 1882

Daniel MCDONALD
Of full age
Bachelor
Draper's Assistant
145 Seymour Place
Father:  Donald MCDONALD,  Farmer

Caroline COOPER
Of full age
Spinster
148 Harley Street
Father:  William COOPER  (deceased),  Farm Bailiff

148 Harley Street is where Caroline is in 1881. I think that you are right about Berks being wrong as on the image it has obviously been added later.

There is no Daniel MCDONALD living at 145 Seymour Place, Marylebone in the 1881 census, a family, Charles and Mary DAVIS live there with their children. Interestingly Mary comes from Andover so maybe was a friend of Caroline?

This looks really promising thank you. It does seems really possible that it is Caroline. Her father was William and Berkshire does seem wrong to me. I will see if I can find them on a census.
Getting excited now!!!  :D

There's  a Daniel McDonald lodging with a Smithers family in Paddington in 1881. Born Scotland, draper's assistant. Aged 24.

Found that census thank you-  right name and occupation only thing that worries me is he would have been 25 and Caroline 36 unless she was lucky and found herself a toy boy :D Noticed on the parish record an Isabella MacDonald was a witness already the dreaded variation of spelling.

just to highlight there's an opportunity for confusion as there's also a Daniel McDonald (or Daniel m Donald as it is on one census) the same age b Marylebone and living in Paddington in 1891. he's married to a Mary before 1881.

haven’t found Daniel and Caroline together - it was his age on 1881 that made me a bit dubious (but who says she didn’t knock a few years off her age - have seen that before) -or indeed any McDonald/cooper children that could likely be theirs. There are some in Medway district, but they can be found on later censuses with a different couple, otherwise they would have had to have moved up North
