I know of no directories for those years.

Where did you source the info that they were available for South Australia?

Is this your person of interest?

From the Biographical Index of South Australians An index of those who were born or arrived in this colony 1836-1885.  Not always accurate.  Compiled in 1986.

McFARLANE

Religion Presbyterian
Married Elizabeth nee NORRIS
Children Margaret, Benjamina, Duncan Lennox 1842-.

Hi,

The 1845 Almanac doesn't list Duncan in the Adelaide Directory but there is a mention of him in the PARTICULAR OF LAND SALES section on page 159.

SUBURBAN LOTS PUT UP ON SPECIAL APPLICATION
There are 4 names here with lot numbers, the size in acres and costs.

LOT DISPOSED OF AFTER THE PUBLIC AUCTION
Lot 1717, 97 acres, Duncan McFarlane, 145l 10s.

Then under MINES AT WORK IN THE COLONY there is a brief mention on page 164 of Duncan McFarlane's Lead Mine.

Thought I'd researched a man of this name previously and yes it was for heath.  Kris our former moderator also researched the topic.

Link to heath's former request

Neither the SLSA or Gould Genealogy have those almanacs listed.  Learn something new every day.

thank you Gerry
I think that you are the one on the right track. could you offer any more info.
the others have two Duncan Mcfarlane's and the children of an Allan mcfarlane all mixed up.

1845
Officially titled The Royal South Australian Almanac and General Directory for 1845 (Allen, James) this small, but useful, book contains the names of people who were in South Australia in that year. The Almanac contains a range of useful information on various statistics, Acts, information on the geography of South Australia, together with Justices of the Peace, charges for licences and more. The Adelaide Directory section list names alphabetically by surname, together with their occupation and street address.
1851
The South Australian Almanac & Directory 1851 (A. Murray) is a rare early almanac and directory, and gives a fascinating insight into the South Australia of 1851. It also contains a great deal useful information for the researcher, not just local, family and social history.

at the state records of south australia.
