Cant find Mary but this Child was Christened Tempsford to WILLIAM/MARY;
ANN 1 June 1823

Others are to a WILLIAM/ELIZABETH;
JAMES 29 June 1817
JOHN 3 Oct 1819

Marriage of a William AUDLEY to Elizabeth RAYNES, 11 Jan 1815 Tempsford

Could Mary be a second Wife?

Burial;
ELIZABETH Audley 3 March 1822 Tempsford

Possible Marriage to Mary WARBOYS 1 July 1822 Great Barford

EDIT, yes they may have had a William but I cant find a Christening for one.

Ah, enter son James!   ;D

Also, there was a baby that died in the first quarter of 1844, Mary Ann Audley.  Buried on 10 March 1844 also in St Peters.

Perhaps Mary Audley born 1816 died in childbirth.

That works for me.

So if Mary Audley born 1816 wasn't the daughter of William and Mary or William and Elizabeth, there must be a marriage for Mary ? to either John or James Audley presumably.

Was just about to say James married Esther Browning in 1843 in the second quarter.  Do you think he would remarry so soon after Mary's (born 1816) passing in May 1843?

Of course it would explain why he wasn't at home in 1851 and why Elizabeth stayed with her Grandparents.

Edit: James and Esther Audley are living in Tempsford in 1851, 1861, and 1871. James is widowed possibly for the second time in 1881.

Yes but Elizabeths possible Birth Reg 1839 doesnt have a Mothers mn.

Just because we dont have a Mary c 1826 Christening to William/Mary it does not mean she doesnt exist.
