WW2 service record I J Miller
« on: Saturday 27 May 17 19:06 BST (UK) »
Hey all,

Trying to get a hold of my late grandfather's service record from WW2. I've struggled through some of the links in earlier threads here but without success.

His name: Isidore J Miller
Service number*: 295788
Born in Cape Town, as I recall it.

Aside from that not sure what to put in the search engines... any and all assistance is greatly appreciated!

On a separate unrelated note, his brother in law "Abe Gottlieb" is also a S. African but his records say he belonged to the RAF proper. Wonder how that happened!? He was in bomber command, Rhodesia squadron, and was shot down in 1942.

J
*: I think. Its printed along with his name on the bottom of his war service medal.

appreciated!

i actually bought a few of the squadron operations books detailing the month of and the month prior to his being shot down. The one line "A/C missing, no signals received" evokes a tremendous feeling of sadness.

Many South African pilots flew for the RAF during WWII, including one our most famous "Sailor" Malan, who was a Group Captain during WWII.
