Elizabeth Kelly
« on: Saturday 27 May 17 22:42 BST (UK) »
Searching for any info about Elizabeth Kelly. My gggrandmother was her sister. My gggrandmother was born in Dublin ,so i think she would have been as well. I have 2 newspaper articles off  Trove where her sister Mary Kelly is looking for her. Its from around 1853 saying she arrived in Melbourne with Mr J.W Bell, was a native of Van Diemans Land and latterly residing in Geelong.Would love to know if these 2 found each other again and what happened to Elizabeth (does she have desendants) thanks.

Just to help others who may look, here is one of the articles, 5 Nov 1852 (bottom third of the page, left hand margin)

Do you know her parents names and date of birth?

Thank you i will follow up that link. No i have no idea. I came across her while searching for her sister, my gggrandmother, who was an orphan on the Earl Grey Scheme. Her sister Marys date of the birth was 1830 , so im thinking it would be around that time.Elizabeth (Betsey) has come out separately, and they obviously looked for each other.Presuming they had been orphaned at some stage, as Mary had come from the Wexford Workhouse in Dublin.

If you're after information about what happened to Elizabeth after she came to Australia, maybe also post a request on the Australia board?  ;) Very tricky with such a common name and no parent's names to help.

The only arrivals for Elizabeth KELLY I can see in Tasmania earlier than 1852 are:
1832 (on the Sophia, with a child),

or convicts:
1837 (on the Atwick),
1844 (on the Phoebe, however she died in 1850),
1848 (on the John Calvin)
1850 (on the Emma Eugenia)
1851 (on the Aurora)

As I said, a common name!

Geelong Advertiser and Intelligencer 5 Nov 1852 p2

ELIZABETH KELLY, If the above party, who is a native of Van Diemen's Land, and who arrived in Melbourne with Mr J.W. Bell, and was last heard of as residing in Geelong, will communicate with the undersigned, she will hear of her sister Mary.  JOHN DYKES, Belfast.

What is the second newspaper notice please.

How have you identified this Mary to be your gggrandmother?

Who is John DYKES, Belfast?
