Thank you very much. Your help is really appreciated.

The Elizabeth marrying Richard William Elen in 1868 is definitely correct. On the 1871 and 1891 censuses, it says she was born about 1847 in Bermondsey. The GRO has no Elizabeth Tyrrells born in Bermondsey. However, I have previously seen Bermondsey and Poplar referring to the same general area, so picked up the 1847 Poplar birth of Elizabeth Sarah, which I am not so sure of now, so "Sarah" may well be wrong.

I can't find an Elizabeth Elen of the right age dying in Jan 1898 on GRO either, but there is an Elizabeth dying in the first quarter of 1893 in St Olave Southwark aged 46. Not only does the age fit, but it is the same place that she lived according to the 1871 and 1891 censuses and she doesn't appear on any later censuses. If that death is correct, Elizabeth could have been born between April 1846 (after date of censuses) and early 1847, which would rule out Elizabeth Sarah who was born in September 1847. According to the GRO, that only leaves us with two possible options for Elizabeth's birth: 4th qtr 1846 St Luke Middlesex (mmn Crabb) or 1st qtr 1847 Shoreditch (mmn Curle). Would either of these cover Bermondsey?

Don't forget that a few birth registrations were missed prior to the mid 1870's when the onus was put on the parent to register the birth so neither may be yours

I am actually researching the Elens, but interested in Elizabeth Tyrell and her background because she married into the Elen family.

Thanks for putting me on the right track  ;D

The John Palmer & Sarah Palmer witnesses seem to appear on other marriages around that time in the parish so are probably no help.
