George Duffin
« on: Sunday 28 May 17 15:33 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the marriage of George Duffin and his wife Harriett.

George was born or baptised  in Lambeth on the 12/12/1797 all his working life he is a jeweller or Goldsmith.

In the 1841 census 1084 33 12 he is age 40 and has children age 20 down to 10 but Harriett is not on this census.

In the 1851 census 1564 73 5 he is age 54 Harriett is 39 which must be wrong and she is born in Brigh? Warwickshire.

George's middle name maybe Wharton or Warton.

George dies in 1879 age 81.

Would anyone be able to tell me the details of George and Harriett's marriage.

A family tree has a marriage 19 July 1818 to Ann Garrett and her death 1839 so if correct any marriage to Harriett should be after that date.

Tree also has overlapping children and marriage to Harriett also in 1818 so not quite accurate.

2 children with Ann 1828 - 1830

9 children with Harriett 1819 - 1843

First child with Harriett down as William Leader Duffin so could Leader be a clue?

Further down the tree marriage is given as 1845 and a daughter born 1843 but I can't see the birth to check mothers name.

Elizabeth Ann Strange Duffin 28 Mar 1843

bit of a tangle to say the least  :-\

Is that the one and only appearance of Harriett in 1851?

Hard to read if George is widowed in 1861 (he is in 1871) but she isn't with him.

I don't envy you this one  :)

Found the above birth on GRO -

STRANGE, ELIZABETH  ANN STRANGE
q1 1845, Staines
Vol 03  Page 344
No mother's maiden name  ???

The above is also on FreeBMD. It would appear that the birth was registered under Duffin and Strange.

Perhaps George and Harriett never married.

Looking at the image of the 1851 Harriett's birth place could be Birmingham, Warwick.

The birth would seem to indicate parents were not married and Harriett was Harriett Strange.

Any other sightings of her after 1851?  Can't make out if George is a widower in 1861 or not but no wife with him.  If they never married then he was still technically a widower anyway from his first wife.
