« on: Sunday 28 May 17 19:43 BST (UK) »
Looking for the birth of Ralph Smith in the Weston area of cheshire around these dates please.

He later married Elizabeth Glover in 1799 in Audley- just over the border in Staffordshire.

I am looking for any clues re his parentage and any indication of witnesses or details on the marriage.

many many thanks

Caroline

Thank you! That is brilliant! John Latham as a witness to the marriage confirms i have the right one and the birth in 1779 makes sense too!
I just wonder how feasible it would be for Ralph to be the son of a labourer but by the time he marries he is a yeoman- how would he have made his money to buy land? Any suggestions? I also have details that confirms that his father William also owns property by the turn of the century in 1800- how were these folks making their money? Any ideas?

Many thanks indeed
