Richard Hodges

Looking for birth records for my great-great grandfather Richard Hodges born circa 1866 in Allihies County Cork. Also possibly birth records for Catherine Jane (Janet) Gill born in the same year, and their marriage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you :)

There is a Richard Hodges born 1866 in the right area his address isn't Allihies. It is possible he gave the name of the nearest town to where his was born people often do this rather than give the name of a small townland.
Father Richard mother Margaret, not sure about her surname yet.

One to consider at least, do you have a marriage for him for his father's name?

sorry see now you don't have marriage, better to look for that first I guess.

They married 1891 and his father is Richard, same address as the birth.
Her father is Thomas

Trying to make out the townland names, the registrar often had their own way of spelling placenames but I think the Gill's are from Clonglaskan and the Hodges it looks like Cluin but I think that should be Cloan, they would need further checking.

Richard's mother may also be Sulliavan.

Thank you so much Sinann! This will keep me busy for a while.

He ended up in Allihies you see, so yes perhaps he was born somewhere near Allihies. My family still own the farm that he had there, where my great-grandmother was born. Thanks again for your help!  ;D

Ah, just figured out that Cluin is the village of Allihies, which is actually a Parish.

The OSI mapviewer doesn't have Cluin marked but it does give it as a Locality at/in Allihies.
http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V2,458601,545245,11,9
so as such they were from Allihies.

Use the search, by county, by Locality.
